The Earth is Trashed in the Trailer for ‘Blade Runner 2049’

We could debate all day whether Blade Runner should ever have got a sequel, but the fact is that Blade Runner 2049 will be coming out later this year (October 6th). At least, with the brilliant Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Sicario) directing, we can have some faith that the film should be quality. And the first official full-length trailer (posted above) has plenty of wonderful visuals and nods to the original.

Here’s more info on the movie:

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

From executive producer Ridley Scott and director Denis Villeneuve, #BladeRunner2049 stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana De Armas, MacKenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, Lennie James, Carla Juri, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista and Jared Leto.

  1. Well…….
Looks like something I MIGHT pay to go see in a theater. We’ll see.

I own a decent flat screen and large sound system and most of the time I prefer to wait until a film is released onto DVD or streaming media to watch it. I don’t like large indoor spaces with crowds where I can’t feel secure. Especially places like theaters/cinemas with few exits.

Sometimes, however, I can steel myself up to go out to see a film if it seems above average, or truly piques my interests. I went to see “Arrival” and did enjoy that one.

“Bladerunner” is one of my top 5 favorite films, so I will see how things pan out between now and it’s release.

  2. Gaff is back
A couple of years ago I dreamed that I organised a Blade Runner reunion convention, and had managed to get Harrison Ford and Edward James Olmos together. They were best pals in my dream.

Last year on a scifi movie forum, I campaigned to “Bring Back Gaff! Where The Frak is Eddie James Olmos?” Apparently someone close to production saw this and they brought back Olmos as Gaff for Blade Runner 2049. It’s only one scene, but I’m pretty chuffed at this.

JR – Kipple is useless objects, like junk mail or match folders after you use the last match or gum wrappers of yesterday’s homeopape. When nobody’s around, kipple reproduces itself. For instance, if you go to bed leaving any kipple around your apartment, when you wake up the next morning there’s twice as much of it. It always gets more and more.
    Pris- I see.
JR – There’s the First Law of Kipple, “Kipple drives out nonkipple.” Like Gresham’s law about bad money. And in these apartments there’s been nobody there to fight the kipple.
Pris – So it has taken over completely. Now I understand.
JR – Your place, here, this apartment you’ve picked – it’s too kipple-ized to live in. We can roll the kipple-factor back; we can do like I said, raid the other apartments. But –
    Pris – But what?
    JR – We can’t win.
    Pris – Why not?
JR – No one can win against kipple, except temporarily and maybe in one spot, like in my apartment I’ve sort of created a stasis between the pressure of kipple and nonkipple, for the time being. But eventually I’ll die or go away, and then the kipple will again take over. It’s a universal principle operating throughout the universe; the entire universe is moving toward a final state of total, absolute kippleization.
