For all of you boils and ghouls who get sooo depressed when it’s time to take down the Halloween decorations, and *loathe* the sound of jingles playing non-stop in the aisles of your local Costco, THIS is the kind of Xmas movie that will make your dark heart beat with joy!
Based on the traditional German-Alpine folklore, about the demon-like companion of Saint Nicholas in charge of punishing all the children who have misbehaved, Krampus was written and directed by Michael Dougherty (Trick ’r Treat), co-written by Zach Shields and Todd Casey, and produced by Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni, Alex Garcia and Dougherty. The film will be released by Universal Pictures on December 4th.
Here’s a clip of Dougherty explaining how he intends to traumatize American movie-goers with his terror spin on this dark, syncretic folklore mixing pagan traditions with the Christian theme of the Nativity.
Something tells me kids this year will try EXTRA HARD not to be naughty…
