The Grimerica Show @ PS2014

One of the things I love the most about the Paradigm Symposium, is that it inspires the audience not only to think for themselves and reach their own conclusions, but also to take a more active stance in the search for answers.

A good example of this are my buds Darren Grimes & Graham Dunlop, whom I met on the 1st Paradigm in 2012. They drove all the way from Calgary to join in this event organized by my Cosmic Compadre Micah Hanks, and the Intrepid Magazine editor & religious historian Scotty Roberts; and even though I’d only interacted with Darren through the comment section on Mysterious Universe a few times, we all became fast friends almost immediately.

It was because of Mysterious Universe and Micah’s Gralien Report radio show, that the Canadian duo decided to start a podcast of their own. Now I’m going to be honest here: At the beginning I was uncertain on how they were going to pull it off, since they were both rather novice about the whole podcasting requirements, aside from the day jobs and other personal responsibilities they couldn’t neglect because of this new ‘hobby’; add to it the fact that nowadays there’s not exactly a shortage of Fortean shows trying to get a hold of the celebrities in the field, and you can see how The Grimerica Show had quite an uphill road in front of them…

But, as a testament to both their passion and commitment, in a short span of time the Grimericans have already managed to attain a good number of listeners all across the globe, a group of good bloggers writing for their webpage, along with a VERY decent list of guests under their belt –Grant Cameron, Stanley Krippner, Dennis McKenna, Rupert Sheldrake & Dr. Rick Strassman just to name a few.

Not bad for a couple of guys transmitting from a little igloo in the middle of the Canadian tundra 😉

This year Scotty Roberts & his new associate Dr. John Ward –known among the veteran Paradigm attendees as ‘the most interesting Egyptologist in the world’— offered Grimerica to be the official podcast of the symposium; it was just too good an opportunity to pass, and I’m proud to say Darren & Graham once again rose to the challenge like pros. On their table at the back of the vendors’ hall they had everything from T-shirts, flyers, business cards, and a banner (co-designed by yours truly) which was later signed by all the PS2014 speakers and now adorns their recording studio in Calgary. They also conducted on-site what they call ‘the Money Bomb’, which is a funding model they emulated from The Higherside Chats in which they ask for cash donations, and after reaching a certain sum they split half of the earnings with a lucky contributor. Someone left Minneapolis with a hundred bucks-worth of new books thanks to Grimerica!

Below is a list of all the interviews they recorded at the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis, the beautiful building in which the conferences and the dinner banquet were hosted this year. If you’ve never listened to them, you’ll quickly notice that, although Grimerica took inspiration from MU and the Gralien Report, their ‘loose-cannon’ tone of casual conversation is actually closer to Joe Rogan’s, and is what probably distinguishes them from most of the podcasts out there –as such, the boys are not afraid of dropping a few ‘F-bombs’ here and there, something I hope won’t prevent you from enjoying the entertaining dynamic between Graham’s New Age-y enthusiasm on everything concerning Consciousness, in contrast with Darren’s nonchalant ‘groundedness’ and more skeptic attitude on these topics.

I also got to participate in a few of those recordings, as you might have probably deduced from the top image, in which you can see me sitting right beside UFO historian/researcher Richard Dolan. Having the chance to engage people you’ve admired for a number of years is a priceless opportunity, and I’m very grateful the Grimericans are taking me along for the ride. Hope you decide to join us as well!

  1. Passport to Paradigm Portals
Definitely got the sense of “being there” during your podcast with Nuvie. I was really feeling the love, kind of like Atum dating himself, haha. And how is EPG supposed to compete with those blow-up Moai at next year’s vender exhibit. Had me rolling in the bit about using a service cat for ghost hunting. Did the guy with the dowsing rod find the bar? I was kind of left hanging there, haha!

      1. Other people
Yeah, you’re right. Maybe it’s as simple and seeing the other person in the eye, and reading their non-verbal cues. Maybe it’s something more subtle, like responding to ‘their energy’, but being all face to face makes for a much lively and dynamic exchange 🙂

    1. Dowsing rod
Oh yeah. That was our illustrious friend and resident Templar knight, Dr. John Ward 😉

I remember the 1st time I met him in 2012. He keeps telling me *I* was the 1st one who spoke to him in the Doubletree hotel. It really does make an impression of you. Hopefully some day I’ll save enough dough to make the trip to Egypt and visit the place he & his wife Maria are studying.

      1. Well-Adjusted Paradigm Shifters
Always nice to be someone’s first, haha.

Just listened to the podcast with Rich Dolan that you were a part of. I had not heard that the Pentagon spends $4B on shaping public opinion via social media and The Media in general. Wow! No wonder there are so many trolls and pathological deniers hanging out all over the place.

The interview ended very amusingly with Rich saying that he has some tips for being a well-adjusted fringe researcher! Isn’t that a bit of an oxymoron? Unfortunately, Rich didn’t take the time to actually share any specific self-help information. Personally, I’ve found it easier to be an alt.sci.wingnut than to successfully deal with certain other things, such as being in a marriage relationship! I guess George Clooney is now finding that out the hard way, as well. His bride has just banned him from contact with any of his ex-girlfriends. (Exactly what is it about marriage that you do not understand, George?)

Truly, humor is about the only antidote to the psychological poisons of the fringe. Surely the quest to colonize another world (like ours) must be filled with endless possibilities for disasters. We the Colonists either have to laugh or cry about it.

          1. Coping and Blunting
Ok, humor can get us only so far. Robin Williams is our latest case study on that. Bravery is good. Lately, I find that “giving up” sometimes helps, but end up starting up again the next day. Maybe giving up on the government is a form of that strategy. At the end of the day/life, one can only find satisfaction in the creative expression and in what was achieved through it, and whether others appreciated the effort or not.

Richard Dolan comes across as having it very much together in Hangar 1: The UFO Files. Just the same, maybe RPJ shouldn’t tell him about that “Disclosure is Dead” blog. It could push him right over the edge, haha! I always imagined Graham Hancock as a totally together dude. Was astonished to learn (on the Rogan podcast) that even he had become a full-time stoner for awhile. I’m ashamed to say that I once resorted to listening to Sting CD’s (over and over) in order to keep my own work moving forward, haha! Yes I was a desperate man.

I could never quite “adjust” to the status quo. Never felt comfortable around “normal” or “church” people, who just seem to happily ignore all of the incongruities of life. But, I could never just walk away from proper society either. Felt like I had to find answers and ultimately share them – only to find out that very few want that. It’s also been disappointing that the alternative field is so fractured. It seems like it’s every researcher for themselves, and with just a few “theorists” competing for a very small audience. Kudos to sites like TDG (as well as Hancock’s) that nurture the entire movement. Also, it’s nice to know that events like Paradigm are achieving some level of “fellowship”.

          2. Whale of a Podcast
Corrected the reference to The Unexplained Files in the above post. There have been so many shows on UFO’s recently it’s hard to keep them straight!

Also looked at a couple of the other podcasts tonight.

Was Chase Kloetzke actually suggesting that she had exotic (possibly extra-terrestrial) metal on her at the symposium? Hello, is there a metallurgist in the house?

Edward Nightingale & Laird Scranton mention the amazing scientific information encoded in the geometry and design of the Great Pyramid itself, and then go on to talk about the “Hall of Records”. Hasn’t anyone ever concluded that the Great Pyramid itself is the Hall of Records? The builders weren’t trying to hide the Great Pyramid, obviously. Likely, the lost info is already being recovered by those who are analyzing the structure “to the nines”.

          3. Kloetzke
I think Chase was in fact trying to contact a reliable metallurgist.

Re. the ‘Hall of Records’, I think what they’re referring at is the ‘hidden chamber’ inside the Great Pyramid; the one that’s supposedly behind all those tiny doors with metal handles on it.

During the symposium I had this wacky idea: Many of these researchers are convinced that whoever built the Hall, was trying to make sure humanity would ONLY get to them when their technology had matured enough, i.e. when we were ready for it. But then I came to think: Why do we think this is an issue of technology? Maybe the only way to reach the lost knowledge of the ancients, is to THINK like an ancient.

Perhaps the Pyramid is some sort of ‘spiritual test’ of sorts. What if what you need to do is go up into the King’s Chamber, follow some sort of practice that would let you go into an out-of-body state, and THEN in that state you can go through the tunnels and reach the chamber? 😉

          4. Keeping it together
Well, on my farewell edition to my weekly column on Mysterious Universe, I tried to point out at a couple of tips people in the fringe might find useful, in order to remain the spirits high and preserve the integrity of their sanity.

Humor is definitely a top priority in the list. The ability to laugh at yourself and your misfortunes can be incredibly therapeutic, and it can also render your enemies powerless, and without any ammunition to fire at you. One thing I noticed in the last Paradigm Symposium is how John Anthony West has managed to retain a full control of his mental capacity, and with an emotional state anyone half his age would envy; I think part of the secret behind this is his good sense of humor –he regaled us at the dinner party with a very funny anecdote on how he managed to ‘bury the hatchet’ with his arch-nemesis Zahi Hawass; he also throws a lot of gags during his presentations that reminded me a lot of Mark Twain’s wit. On contrast, his much younger partner Robert Schoch spent a looot of time ranting against his many critics and enemies in the academic field last year; so I feel Robert should pay attention to how John copes with criticism, if he wishes to reach to that age without turning into a bitter old man :-/

I think another important thing is to have strong social relations, be that close friends or a loving family. They become your anchor and help to keep you centered. I use to resent the fact that my family never showed much interest for the kind of things I was so curious about, but in hindsight that might have been something of a veiled blessing, because you DO need to disconnect from this wacky world once in a while 😉

          5. The Hall of Records is Dead
I tried to break it to you gently RPJ, but you give me no choice, haha!

Hang on to that idea about walking through walls though. That has all kinds of applications, including winning next year’s America’s Got Talent competition. This may be an Emlong question, but what vibrational state do think is needed to pull that off. The Gospel account of Jesus going through walls comes readily to mind. Jesus obviously didn’t literally pass through walls, but the story does preserve a memory that gods once could do it (or were believed to do it). Are there other examples from Myth related to this particular feat/trick?

Nobody close to me (family or friends) has any interest in any of this esoteric, alternative stuff, but you and Bill Murray say I’ve got that going for me, so I’m accepting mental health points for that.

Regarding the Great Pyramid, we’ll just have to keep teasing the knowledge out of the structure itself. I like what the podcast guys said about not needing validation from Academia regarding their findings. I like the soccer analogy. Academics are playing a game (very much like soccer) with a very rigid, almost sacred, set of rules. It’s nearly impossible to change any of those rules. And Academics break them at extreme peril. Those of us who want something different and better must in effect invent a new sport.

I’m surprised that Schoch would whine so much in a non-Academic setting about his Academic drama. No doubt his esteemed colleagues bristle over all the talking head appearances on TV, especially considering he weighs in on so many topics unrelated to Geology. But that’s not something an alternative crowd really wants to hear about.

          6. Whining
Hmmm, whining sounds a bit harsh &… infantile. IMHO Schoch did complain a lot about how much rejection he’s received over the years; I found him to be a very approachable & nice man, so that’s why I fear he needs to find ways to cope with the backlash if he wishes to preserve his mental and physical health.

Yeah, the pyramid itself seems to have all sorts of knowledge embedded into its very structure. It points out to something I’ve been thinking about, on how TRUE knowledge is not about trying to find things that have been buried in the sand for eons, but growing NEW EYES that you may finally *see* what was right in front of your nose all along.

That, to me, is the essence of Gnosis 🙂

          7. Un-Whined
Maybe Robert hopes to make enough to quit the professor gig. Until then, Academia is his “reality” and “cross to bear.” It might as well be a parallel universe to the rest of us! No point in shouting at the darkness when the light switch is at hand. I retired from a government job three years ago and don’t miss the office politics one iota. I’m looking to retire from esoteric research pretty soon too! Whine, whine, whine.

I want something else [besides Sting and “crystal myth” haha]
            To get me through this
            Semi-charmed kind of life, baby!
