The National Institute for Discovery Science has posted an article (in PDF form, requires Acrobat Reader) titled “Prospects for Breakthrough Propulsion from Physics“, by Marc G. Millis of NASA’s Glenn Research Center. It’s a short but fascinating read – talk of zero point energy, quantum tunneling and superconductors as methods of travelling inter-stellar distances. Never mind the dry scientific terms – under ‘Metric Engineering’ we find the description: “In basic terms, if one cannot break the light-speed limit through space, then alter space. Two prominent approaches are the warp drive and the
wormhole.” Well worth a look.
