News Briefs 10-03-2005

We try to give you variety here at TDG. UFOs, monsters, poltergeists, masons and zen – the Thursday news briefs.

  • By collecting thousands of cases of children who spontaneously (without hypnosis) remember a past life, Dr. Ian Stevenson offers convincing scientific evidence, if not proof, for reincarnation.
  • New archaeological evidence suggesting that the first national leader of the British Isles was a Scot. Let’s hope the next one is too…
  • Here’s columnist Stephen Strauss with a sceptical take on the Global Consciousness Project.
  • Hava a look at this remarkably detailled UFO photo snapped by a teacher from Dorset in the UK. Real or fake?
  • Did a UFO crash in Nebraska in the 19th Century or was it one of Bill’s failed Philedelphia experiments?
  • Here’s another photo of a British UFO, this time from Grangemouth, Scotland. Do they steer by means of some electrokinetic principle?
  • Everything you ever wanted to know about the Skull and Bones Society but were afraid to ask.
  • A granite artwork known as the ‘Cursing Stone’ blamed for bringing misfortunes of “biblical proportions” to a city has been saved from destruction.
  • The Israel Defense Forces believe incoming recruits and soldiers who play Dungeons and Dragons are unfit for elite units because they are detatched from reality. They’re asking for a fireball up the nose.
  • Fossil reactors – the remnants of natural nuclear reactors nearly two billion years old were found in the 1970s in Africa.
  • A Guernsey couple watched in amazement as ball lightning entered their home.
  • US scientists are trying to teach a parrot to surf the web. Arthur, an African Grey, can switch between four “sites” at the moment, but this is very much the beginning of the project. I think Shadows is ahead of them there.
  • Last year, there were twelve seperate sightings of “yellow spheres” flying above a village in Scotland.
  • The tragic case of Tina Resch, the troubled teenager at the centre of possibly the most famous modern case of poltergeist activity.
  • We are visited and controlled by UFOs from the M15 Globular Star Cluster – the densest Black Hole driven ‘Core Cluster’ – the capital of the Universe (India Daily).
  • Could poltergeists be caused by faultlines in the ground which our ancestors marked with sacred sites and some now call ley-lines?
  • A blast from the past issues of DUAT magazine: “Mysteries of Rosslyn Chapel, the Templars and the Grail.”
  • The Mogollon Monster, Arizona’s version of Bigfoot.
  • The hunt for artificial muscles has taken a macho step further with an arm wrestling contest between three prototypes and a girl.
  • The United Nations yesterday approved a declaration urging governments to ban all forms of human cloning, including the cloning of human embryos for stem cell research – but Britain will defy the UN.
  • The latest edition of New Scientist is now available online. Check it out here.
  • Saturn’s largest and hazy moon, Titan, has a surface shaped largely by Earth-like processes of tectonics, erosion, winds, and perhaps volcanism.
  • The melting of sea ice at the North Pole may be the result of a centuries-old natural cycle and not an indicator of man-made global warming, Scottish scientists have found.
  • To go with our current poll, here are some gallaries of masonic-themed American art – “Art From the Lodge Hall”.
  • Lastly, to destress your day and give you some wonders to contemplate, we bring you 101 zen stories.

Thanks Shadows, as always a link angel.

Quote of the Day:

I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

  1. thank you
That’s very nice variety, yes. Keeps the investigative (or merely curious) mind occupied usefully. Well, sort of usefully.

Just an observation, the supply of Atlantis discoveries seems to have dried up somewhat, what is wrong with those people ?

  2. smart parrots
“Cernig”, I love to hear stories about parrots.
My parrot of course is extremely clever, now when the dogs bark, he barks with them. And you can see he thinks it is funny.
I wonder why some people do not see the value of birds and animals in our lives. My pets are far more accepting and far less judgemental of me than any person has ever been.

    1. Goood Little Parrot Shadows
See Shadows, that is why your little parrot keeps taking your keys off of your keyboard. IT wants to surf and is trying to learn, or its frustated becuase you have not taught it properly how to….Great little link, thanks…Good job on the newd if you set it up today. Thank you….XC

  3. Stem Cell Research
There may only be a one in a billion chance that stem cell research will one day lead to treatments that will allow the disabled to walk again, but it’s a chance. It doesn’t matter how gigantic the odds are, it’s still a chance … and any chance, no matter how minute, is worth pursuing with all our intellect and passion.

Those who call for the complete banning of stem cell research, I ask to look in the eye of a disabled person and tell them that they have no hope, because that is effectively what you are doing — giving them no hope.

Any hope, no matter how small, no matter how much the odds are stacked against it, is worth fighting for.

    1. better odds
I think the odds could be better than that Rick.I seem to recall some experiment with mice where stem cells enabled the regrowing of spinal nerves. If that is the case then it will indeed happen, and maybe sooner than we think.I agree that the opportunity should be given to these people to regain their lives.
