Guillermo del Toro’s Ghosts

There’s a cool video interview with director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) available on the website of The Guardian which any movie or monster freak will enjoy (some NSFW language):

Director Guillermo del Toro talks to Mark Kermode about the genesis of his ‘beautiful daughter’ Pan’s Labyrinth, how a visit from a faun prompted his love affair with monsters and why videogames are the narrative art of the future.

Guillermo discusses how some ‘paranormal’ events have shaped the way he looks at the world, and how he structures his narratives a little differently to most. The video for some reason displays in a stretched perspective on my computer, but it’s not that big a deal – check it out if you have the time.

  1. Ay Gordo, que PELADO!!! 8-(
Thanks a ton for linking this Greg. What a wonderful interview, but MAN, does my countryman like to use the “F” word a lot!!

Which is of course something we mexicans NEVER do! EVER!

    A huevo que sí! 😉

I completely agree with his idea that there are two things in common with every mexican: a natural distrust to any form of institution, and a national sense of impending doom.

    Yep, that’s us. Viva México!!

His last movie, “Pan’s Labyrinth”, was originally intended to be set during the Mexican Revolution of the 1910s. But OBVIOUSLY no one cared to help him to fund the movie. Luckily he found investment in Spain, so he went there, and AFTER all the praise he received abroad when the movie was released, he was celebrated here and treated amost like a national hero. That’s a very mexican attitude too, I’m afraid 🙁

    1. Uhh… what?
      >>A huevo que sí! 😉

I did a google search, and clicked on a few ‘translate this page’ links.

      A huevo que sí:
      At that if egg
      In egg yes
      In egg if it
      Well, yes egg

Somehow I think goggle’s translation software must be a bit off the mark. 😉 Care to clue us in?

      1. LOL
As you mihgt have guessed, the google translation is a bit prudish.

Let’s just sat it’s a rather indecent way to say “That’s Right!” or “Right On!”.

But, as most of our sayings, it shows the mexican obsession with male GENITALIA 😉

  2. Viva del Toro!
U2 on the right, Guillermo del Toro on the left — I love TDG. 😀

It’s also fitting that a del Toro interview is posted on October 31st. An extra special otherworldly news brief coming soon.
