Dear Santa, Here’s what I’d like for Christmas. Since I’ve behaved myself exceptionally well this year, please bring me a pair (for later breeding) that are only 6-8 weeks old, so they’ll still be in their language acquisition stage. Love, Kat

Thanks, Greg.

Quote of the Day:

I was walking past on my lunch break and a brick almost hit me in the head. I looked up at a house and half of it was missing. A bath tub fell out and landed on the street. The noise was deafening and we saw what looked like smoke swirling in the air. You could tell it was a tornado – from what you’ve seen on films – and it had bits of wood and other things swirling around.

  1. sphinx cats
My mom had a hairless cat and everyone who saw it thought something was wrong with it! It was the sweetest, most loving cat. I want one too but it will have to wait until we move.

  2. They had a dream
It’s anecdotal, but anyone who has been around animals much, particularly “pets” and companion animals, like cats and dogs, “knows” that animals dream.

I’ve had my companion animals awaken from a particularly active (sleep) dream obviously scared and/or freaked out, so they were probably having a nightmare at the time.

And, as much as possible, trying to not anthropomorphize my animals, I think I have seen them experience joy, happiness, sadness, grief, embarrassment, melancholy, boredom, and other similar feelings and emotions.

We will probably never be able to prove or disprove it scientifically.

Of course, we can’t really prove or disprove feelings and emotions with human animals, either, except we all basically agree that they occur and we experience them. Except we can communicate on a higher level, which helps, and I suppose that can be used as a kind of proof. I’m not sure exactly how that is viewed by the scientific community. At the very least, I’m sure that levels and degrees cannot be measured. (a similar thing can be said about physical pain, which still can’t be measured, not to mention psychological pain and suffering)
