If there’s any movie that Grailers are gonna enjoy, it’s likely going to be Dune, with its mix of science fiction, psychedelics and mysticism. That’s why we’ve been excited since it was revealed over three years ago that director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Bladerunner 2049) would helm a remake of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi classic.
And now, the countdown is well and truly on, with the official trailer for Villeneuve’s Dune dropping, in advance of a release date (perhaps tentative, given COVID concerns) of December 18:
Fans of the book will find plenty to satisfy them, as it looks like Villeneuve is sticking fairly closely to the source material – and perhaps there’s even a nod of the head in the trailer to Alejandro Jodorowsky’s never-made version of Dune, with the use of Pink Floyd’s “Eclipse” as the background music (as RPJ has previously mentioned, Jodorowsky planned to use Pink Floyd to soundtrack his 10-hour-long version of the story).
We look forward to seeing how Villeneuve handles the mind-bending properties of spice, given Dune was apparently inspired by magic mushrooms…
