Belief is the death of intelligence.

Quote of the Day:

You should view the world as a conspiracy run by a very closely-knit group of nearly omnipotent people, and you should think of those people as yourself and your friends.

Robert Anton Wilson

  1. Etsy’s Step
Etsy has placed its foot on a very slippery slope by banning “spells” – especially if the banned category embraces crystal and stones sellers who dare to mention some of the general anecdotal lore about effects which are wrongly called “metaphysical” influences. They should more accurately be called “physical” influences since they are essentially resonant feedback devices that interact with the biological energy field.
A logical extension of the ban would be also to prohibit, say, a seller of a dress from saying “you will will look hot and wow your friends wearing this.”
In a larger context of censorship the drug companies should be required to pull, say, antidepressants from the market since so many studies have likened them to being nothing more than placebos – not that these studies have any irrefutable claim to veracity or hold any weight with people who feel that antidepressants work for them.
Etsy appears to have been severely rattled by the recent uproar about Asian counterfeiters selling falsely branded items on the site, and it has overreacted and miscalculated a response.

    1. calling out the BS
eBay still allows the sale of “advice” from someone, so how is spells a bad things? I don’t think many of these people were intentinally trying to misguide, vhowever part of me sees the point of this being an attempt to stop the sale of snake oil. Hopefully they won’t pull the stone sellers. When they banned the sale of ivory from China, which I agree with because it’s poaching, they also banned a lot of other taxidermy goods, forcing many to leave etsy and go only through Facebook. Even if the animal hide were perfectly legal to sell and didn’t violate CITES.

If you are a seller of spells, put the ingredients in a jar or box, sell the item as the ingredients only, but secretly include the spell when you sell it. Or do your sales through facebook. Loyal patrons will keep coming to you.

I just hope they don’t stop taxidermy related items completely. I like collecting skulls and eBay is too expensive.

Then that is what sellers of antidepressants should have to do also – retract claims in advertising. Won’t happen because they are a mighty lobby.

Clinical trials showing antidepressants to be a placebo, i.e. “snake oil:”

“Ironically, Big Pharma’s attempt to dominate the central nervous system has ended up revealing how powerful the brain really is. The placebo response doesn’t care if the catalyst for healing is a triumph of pharmacology, a compassionate therapist, or a syringe of salt water. All it requires is a reasonable expectation of getting better. That’s potent medicine.”

However, there is more to it than just conditioning which is why I think that so called “radionics” which works long distance and without conventional transactional cues is so compelling a clue, and need we mention to TDG readers the possibility that “morphic resonance” may be a factor as well with the apparent recent increase in placebo effect.

          1. antidepressants
All I know about antidepressants and antipsychotics is that when my brother was taking them, one type gave him kidney stones, another made the voices in his head louder, and another made him so violently I’ll he had to go to the hospital. So while I believe a lot of drugs have sugar filler, these drugs side affects do happen. I wish my brother would stay on his meds, he is really messed up.

          2. Antidepressants have saved a
Antidepressants have saved a lot of folks. The point is that efficacy – whether it be an accepted drug or a “spell” is never a decided matter, and making hard and fast assumptions – and legal declarations – about whether anything “works” or not is presumptuous.
