“Life is short and truth works far and lives long: let us speak the truth.”

Quote of the Day:

“Change alone is eternal, perpetual, immortal.”

A. Schopenhauer

  1. This is Your Skin Turned into Brains
Wow, skin cells turned into embryonic cells turned into neurons turned into neurons that glow when firing in a petri dish!

By they way, this same article contained a link to another (more helpful) article about the upcoming Tut documentary.

    http://news.discovery.com/history/archaeology/king-tut-re-creation-presents-a-shocking-image-141020.htm

It quotes Albert Zink, head of the Institute for Mummies and Icemen in Italy, and Egyptian radiologist Ashraf Selim. Zink was part of the original team that analyzed Tut in 2009/2010. Not sure about the radiologist, but he probably was also. Maybe the team is out from under the thumb of Zahi Hawass and is able to be a bit more open about the implications of their work now. If so, that’s something to look forward to.

  2. Shooting for Roswell
A Senior Vice President of Google decides to ascend in a balloon over Roswell, New Mexico to an altitude of over 5 miles and parachute down to set a world record. Of all places! Probably he can neither confirm nor deny any UFO activity captured by his GoPro camera.

  3. Step into Interstellar Disconnect
Why would they arrange (at a major venue) the viewing of multi-million dollar computer graphics on a piece of junk consumer level display?

    1. Not Exactly “Out of this World”
The developers of the Occulus Rift have incredible marketing savvy. So much so that Mark Zuckerberg (yes, of Facebook fame) was induced to buy the company for $2B even before they had a viable product. There is some interesting technology in the display. It primarily leverages micro-miniaturization (“MEMS”) technology used for orientation tracking (integrated with cell phones for playing video games and so forth). However, in order to sell this device to home users, compromises are being made. Better VR displays were available 20 years ago (albeit not at this price). Anyway, the pairing of Occulus Rift with the Interstellar movie screening appears to be for publicity/promotional purposes rather than an attempt to achieve the most immersive experience of Interstellar graphics.
