Did Ireland Convert to Christianity as a Result of Halley’s Comet?

Did Ireland convert to Christianity as a result of Halley’s Comet having a close encounter with the Earth around the year 532 ACE?

  1. Did Halley’s Comet Cause All Ireland To Convert?
    In a word, no.

    In two words, no no.

Ireland had begun the process of conversion in the fourth-fifth century, as the video notes, and there is still record of active “pagan” practices into at least the sixth or seventh centuries (and some indication of self-consciously “pagan” practices all the way into the 14th). The law texts of the ninth-twelfth centuries even record information about such practices and persons (though, arguably, these could have been references that had fossilized into the law codes, but I find that unlikely).

So, no, a comet, even one that brought effects that lasted for several years, did not cause the total conversion of the island.
