“Life moves pretty fast…”

Quote of the Day:

1. Misleading Measures
OK so there are 3 glaciers that are supposed to be archetypal. But there is a list of growing glaciers here.
Their leading edges are moving forward. That does not mean they are gaining mass. Quite possibly the opposite. As they melt the melt water can lubricate the underside and they then slide and stretch downhill. The more rapid advance has been used to measure melt in ice packs too large to estimate mass changes, such as Greenland and Antarctica. If in these cases there is evidence of mass/volume gain I’ll cheerfully refund your hypothesis.

If it is too difficult to estimate mass changes in these large ice packs, why is it legitimate to use the faster advance as evidence of mass loss?

2. The point i am trying to
The point i am trying to make is that if some glaciers are supposed to be melting then others ought to be compensating. To back this up it seems global temperatures have been about the same for the last 10 years or so. But in any case 3 glaciers to represent so many others does not strike me as dependable. It is a very small sample to base projections on even if they are supposed to be archetypal.

Addendum: on global temperatures.

1. dark stuff gets warmer
Also remember that glaciers melt for reasons other than ambient air temperature. Such as water temperature.

And such as soot deposits, which have been directly measured in the Arctic. And such as volcanoes erupting under the ice, as has been witnessed in Iceland. There are volcanoes under the ice in Antarctica. Do they have measurable effects?

1. Guys, Get With The Program!
MEMO

World Marketing has decided to run the program “Global Warming” so no more discussion is possible.

“Green” Products have been released to production and sales with great success and profits. In addition soon to be released are “Intangible Green Products” marketing such as “iGreen Web Sites” which have lower CPU demands when loading thus saving power.

Later when “Global Warming” has run its course and “Green” product sales plateau we will implement “Global Cooling” due to the success of “Global Warming”.

****end

:p

2. Intangibles already here!
Last year the company that refills the LPG bottle for my kitchen stove rang to ask if I was interested in buying “green gas” at a small extra cost of $3 per month.

I asked them to explain to me in layman’s terms how their “green gas” differed from the stuff that is pumped out of the ground, liquified, put in a tanker and brought to this town by road before being put in my gas bottle during refills. Needless to say they were somewhat hard pressed to come up with anything at all in the way of an explanation.

To the sorrow of their greedy little minds I declined their kind offer.

Regards, Kathrinn

1. Sipping Impactors
When you want to feel like you’re made of star stuff, as Sagan said, the following should do the job:

“‘We may sip a piece of the impactors every time we drink a glass of water,’ the study authors write in their paper, which will be published in an upcoming issue of the journal Icarus.”

But when you want to feel like you truly belong to the circle of life and are connected to all living things, then consider as you take that sip that every bit of water on this planet has been through at least one animal organism at least one time. Forget star stuff — you’re part T. Rex whiz.

YES. Yes I AM the brain specialist.
