Quote of the Day:

“And when he came to the place where the wild things are, they roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws till Max said, “Be still” and tamed them with the magic trick of staring into all their yellow eyes without blinking once. And they were frightened and called him the most wild thing of all and made him king of all wild things.”

Maurice Sendak, ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ (1963)

  1. “New” Anti-Addiction Pill
CNN has failed to do its homework.

Naltrexone (and the related naloxone) has been tested for addiction treatment since at least 1975: “Testing of drug delivery systems for use in the treatment of narcotic addiction.” Reuning RH, Malspeis L, Frank S, Notari RE. Natl Inst Drug Abuse Res Monogr Ser. 1975;(4):43-5. The PubMed search I did to get this turned up 481 articles for the search terms “naltrexone” and “addiction” (779 using “naloxone” instead). As a product of the National Library of Medicine at NIH, it is available to the public, including CNN.

Naltrexone is a fairly harmless compounds. However, its effects — blocking of the effects of narcotics — can last up to 3 weeks. This can lead to the extremely unhappy situation of being injured in an accident and not being able to benefit from pain killers. Besides uncomfortable, this can be dangerous, as pain can increase the probability of going into shock.

No, I am not the brain specialist…..
YES. Yes I AM the brain specialist.

    1. Well
I suppose the —relatively— recent development with naltrexone is in its use for the treatment of alcoholism, whereas in the 70s it was focused on treating heroine addicts.

  2. New Addiction Pill (And be assured: it will improve your life..)
I have two comments on this new wonderdrug:
    1) What are the side effects (reported, known/suspected but not reported, and as yet undetermined), and
    2) The distributors of this drug are attempting to tap an enormous market of people who truly suffer personally and from strong social criticism.

So many of the modern “wonder drugs” that people take for diabetes, heart disease, and other ailments that can often be dealt with by proper diet and exercise, or dealing with personal psychological issues, have dangerous side effects. So who actually trusts these pharmaceutical companies sell a truly safe product anymore? Does anyone still believe these companies are concerned first about the health of their customers? Its all about getting the money, image, and keeping lawsuits “managed”.

These Pharmaceutical companies are trying to tap the a multi-billion dollar market. A market where effected individuals are suffering personal degradation and where society has strong social stigmas associated with over-drinking. Lots of opportunity to take advantage of individuals desperate for any cure. Any users of this medicine better be awfully cautious. These days, the differences between big-business and the mafia are pretty small!

    1. Hmmm
Your criticism about the Pharma industry shows you have a very cynical personality.

But don’t worry, I’ve heard Prescott Pharmaceuticals is developing a new wonder drug that is aimed to cure that. It’s tentative name is ‘Blue Pill’; it has taken 10 years and US$ 500 millions to develop it —money taken from the Malaria research department, incidentally— and some of it’s side effects include hairy spleen, divergent erection, & mild odorization of the saliva.

[Disclaimer: Prescott Pharmaceuticals is in no way related to The Daily Grail; the $50K and new Sport Mazda Greg Taylor has recently received can not be traced accounted to Prescott Pharmaceuticals Marketing Department]
