Perhaps there is an alien that like the stones?

Quote of the Day:

If you don’t make mistakes, you’re not working on hard enough problems. And that’s a big mistake.

Frank Wilczek

  1. Von Braun’s secret.
    Secret? No, no secret.

Early space flights did have a degree of unknown in their calculations; ranging from the amount of thrust the engines produced, the resistance of the upper atmosphere, the flight path and most of all, the ground tracking of the vehicle.

Sure, they had done their calculations on slide rules and paper, (no computers…) but back then, the height of the atmosphere was not precisely known, radar used to track objects was not fully developed, radio stations were not up and running around the world, precise measurements of the earth had not been confirmed and so on.

If there was some secret regarding gravity, then it is no longer a ‘secret’ as so many countries and organizations outside of NASA have put vehicle in to space around not only the earth, but other bodies in the solar system.

    Nothing to see, move along…

  2. Red
Right now I’m in the process of buying a new car. So obviously you begin to think about the color.

And yes, I thougt about getting a red car; which promptly brought a concerned reply from my father: “Don’t buy a red car! Don’t you know red cars are statistically more prone to suffer an accident?” See, according to my dad, the color red is like a magnet that makes the other drivers unconsciously more likely to hit the car, like bulls reacting to the cape of a Matador.

And to my surprise, this ‘Red/Crash’ theory was confirmed with one of the car dealers I talked to!

So what do you think? As for me, I think that although this urban myth may be some kind of statistical aberration (there probaly aren’t many red cars in the street to begin with, so any of these that suffers an accident contributes to reinforce this belief) I’ll probably buy a car in another color, just to keep things cool with my dad (Don’t get me started here…)

Maybe I’ll pick blue! Sometimes you gotta keep people guessing your real intentions 😉

    1. Supposed to be quite correct, Red
To the best of my knowledge, red cars do have the most accidents. Being the opposite colour to green, they are evidently more difficult to spot in a rural landscape as ones eyes are fooled into not seeing them, or something like that.

Of course, everyone knows that they go faster!!

      Pick a white one – they’re cooler.

In many places, red cars get more speeding tickets. Maybe it is because they go faster, or maybe because they just attract the attention of the police.

Black cars get at least 10 degrees hotter than white cars in the sun. Sure, should you get stuck in the snow the rescue helicopters might see you better than a white car. But in Mexico that is probably not much of an issue.

Many people here prefer slivery grey cars, perhaps because the dirt is not as visible. I suspect they are harder to see in rainy of foggy conditions. Not that I have a data on that.

Personally I prefer white, because they don’t get so hot, and they look ok.

It is not how fast you go
it is when you get there.

        1. Hmmm
White huh? It could work, but that definitely would mean washing the car more than twice a month, as I used to do 😉
