As mentioned in the news today, the official first full-length trailer for The Da Vinci Code has been released, and is available over at the Apple website devoted to movie trailers. Looks pretty darn good too, kind of exciting to see some ‘flesh’ laid on the bones of characters which exist only in our imaginations. The use of architecture to set the mood also seems to work well – look forward to seeing the movie.

    Rumour has it that Zahi has approached Ron Howard to direct the next “live” opening of the Queens Chamber door in 2006. The word in Hollywood is that the Great Z wants some visual affects created to enhance the viewers’ experience.

    Inside sources have leaked that the massive stone carving of Abu Simbel will be visually recreated to that it will appear behind the door in the Queens chamber inside the GP. There is one further surprise planned for the audience; Zahi’s bust will replace Ramses II on the Abu Simbel monument!

    Apparently Mark Lehner has requested to have a small part in the production but his master the Great Zahirasetiamun has stated, “that it is paramount that the production be historically accurate, and unfortunately for Mark his caucasian background prevents Mark from being directly involved”. The walking legend further stated that, “my own part in the production has been requested by the highest levels of my Government; afterall Ramses and all the great leaders of ancient Egypt were Arabs”.

    Dedicated Hawass fans hope that his hat is featured in the production in as many scenes as possible, and that there are many unqualified statements accusing western countries of theft and corruption.

  2. Looks great
    I never finished the book. Although it was superbly structured (Dan Brown is brilliant at the technical aspects), I was just bored silly by the characters and plot, and it was very predictable. I also found it a bit too “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus”.

    But the film … looks fantastic! I hope Tom Hanks, Audrey Tatou and Ron Howard have managed to colour in the cardboard cut-outs of Dan Brown’s characters, breathed some life and depth into them.

    I’ll be seeing it, mostly for the eye candy. 😉

    A few weeks back I saw the DVC DVD, which was very critical of Dan Brown’s book. On it was Henry Lincoln, but not Richard Leigh or Michael Baigent, or even Dan Brown (which is not surprising, as the DVD pretty much trashed the entire premise of the book). I was surprised by Henry Lincoln’s comments, however. He has completely dissociated himself from Holy Blood Holy Grail in light of the fact that the Sauniere documents and the Priory of Sion have been exposed as total hoaxes. (There were no Sauniere documents – that was part of Pierre Plantard’s hoax.) No wonder Lincoln is not challenging Brown with plagiarism, because he knows HBHG is a load of codswallop. Apparently Baigent and Leigh still think HBHG is factual, because they think it is worth defending in court.

    Even though the book is a heap of junk, I still look forward to seeing the movie. Apparently Ron Howard has got together with a Catholic priest to rewrite the ending to make it acceptable to the Vatican.

      Hi Lee,

      This area is not my specialty but I did read HBHG years ago. Excuse my ignorance, but when was this exposed as a hoax? What about the money Sauniere was apparently given over the years? Was the purpose of the hoax just to exploit money?

      1. HBHG Hoax
        Pierre Plantard died in 2000, and that’s when the hoaxes got exposed. There are several websites devoted to this topic. Sorry I don’t have time to find them, but if you google “Priory of Sion hoax” or “Pierre Plantard hoax” I’m sure you’ll quickly find lots of stuff. The full details of the hoax are well known in France and are spelled out in some French books, but unfortunately these have not been translated into English.

        Basically Pierre Plantard was a rabid right-wing Catholic who was a Nazi sympathizer during the war. He set up the Priory of Sion in 1956. Although the Priory had some Masonic trappings, Plantard, as a right-wing Catholic, hated Masonry.

        Plantard and a couple of his friends (de Cherisey and de Sede) forged several documents and planted them in libraries around France. De Sede has recently said that the purpose of the hoax was that they could make money by writing books, but that doesn’t sound plausible to me. Plantard pointed Henry Lincoln in the direction of these fake documents and Lincoln got sucked in. Plantard invented the whole Grandmaster list. There were no Priory Grandmasters, because the Priory didn’t exist before 1956. The purpose of the hoax in my opinion was to create a lineage for Plantard to show he was descended from the Merovingians and therefore the rightful heir to the throne of France.

        Another part of Plantard’s hoax was the Sauniere documents. These never existed. Sauniere got rich by illegally selling masses, not by blackmail or any such thing. Sauniere was just a naughty boy.

        The idea that the Merovingians were descended from Jesus and Mary Magdalene was Henry Lincoln’s idea, and was not part of Plantard’s hoax. Lincoln has now disavowed this idea.

      Lee, please say that isn’t true, that Ron Howard is going to re-write the ending to make it acceptable to the Catholic Church.
      The only reason I like that bloody book and the whole business it brings up is that it makes a mockery of the Catholic Church.
      There goes any reason I had to see the movie.
      Alas and alack, woe is me….
