Didn't mention in the post, but Cog are heavily influenced by the conspiracy genre, as you'll see in the video. But you have to love any band that can weave the lyrics "Sun gods and obelisks in blood lines from Sirius" into a rock song... :)
I'm actually really surprised that they haven't released "Bitter Pills" as a single. It's a real anthem, and I don't half mind the lyrics and melodic phrasing used in the song to explore the topic of reincarnation.
"A bitter pill I swallowed
Cleaned my mind out
So I could explore
Plagiarised my reactions
All my life an abstraction
But if I'm more than memories
Makes me wonder
Who I was before"
Great band, check them out. Their previous album The New Normal is a bit more 'raw', but is equally deserving of a listen.

that's not prog.. The Mars Volta are prog.. Mahavishnu is prog.. if were going to get into genre enforcment. First you'd have to move past their depth if you were to progress. I mean you have tool on here, and sub rosa--though its out of date. Im just saying hey, c'mon man.

I'd agree with you that 'Are You Interested' isn't prog-rock...it's one of the more basic rock tracks on the album. But it depends on your definition. There's no way I'd call Mahavishnu Orchestra prog...they're jazz fusion, with overtones of rock here and there. But then, I'm not a fan of categorisation of music at all, so I'm not arguing with your opinion.
Personally, my loose definition of prog-rock is extended songs (6 minutes and up) in the rock genre, with at least some 'odd' time signatures, changes in tempo/time signature within songs, instrumental breaks, and quite often deeper lyrics. All of which apply to a number of Cog songs. So I class them as prog-rock. I class Pink Floyd as prog-rock too, but I wouldn't call 'Wish You Were Here' (the track, not the album) an example of prog-rock.
As for requesting I stop calling Cog prog, you might want to start with a website higher up the food chain...
;)
Kind regards,
Greg
