In her book on Spiritualism, "There Is No Death" (1891), Florence Marryat recalls a little experiment with a sceptic doctor: "As Dr. H. was a complete disbeliever in the existence of a God and a future life, I was naturally not surprised to find that he did not place any credence in the account I gave him of my spiritualistic experiences.. On several occasions he told me that if I could procure him the opportunity of submitting a test which he might himself suggest, he should be very much obliged to me..."
