Chinese High Speed Train to Beijing - Hahahaha!
On the surface a high speed train from Shanghai to Beijing sounds reasonable and a great idea.
BUT... (hahaha)
It isn't!
Its all about China "looking" great for the world to see - that's all.
Let me explain.
There is a high speed Maglev train in Shanghai - from the International Airport in Pudong which is east of the river in Shanghai and goes to...no where near Puxi which is west of the river in Shanghai and the destination for the vast majority of travellers.
So after the Maglev you have to schlep your bags (no trolleys) down an escalator to either a taxi or the subway - which you never would ever want to do and continue your journey to Shanghai proper. It is actually much faster to just take a taxi from the Pudong Airport to Shanghai! The Maglev train runs every 20-30 minutes or so and then if there happens to be a lot of suckers who thought it goes to Shanghai and there is a wait for taxi. (Brilliant)
Chinese people have no patience what so ever and if given a choice to sit on a train for 3-4 hours or a plane for 1.5 hours they will take the plane. Ok what about the cost? There was a study done and it was cheaper to have FREE flights to Beijing from Shanghai and back again for 5 years than to build this high speed train.
Chinese will not consider a "normal" high speed bullet train which runs on standard tracks as this would not have the "Gee Whiz" isn't China high tech" - factor.
Back to the Maglev in Shanghai - shame it doesnt make it to the World Expo Site which is in 2010 - as then it would have a function other than something to have a ride in and buy a T shirt.
HAHAHA!
So remember why China has all this money to piss around ever time you go shopping.
Oh, On the subject of Chinese democracy - the people in China got the government they deserve - remember that as well!

Chinese space technology is based on Russian design for example.
Its easier letting someone else break ground first then run up with a fat wallet saying "Me too, me too!" Its the money that does it. Like the Olympics...
The story in China now is that the Beijing Olympics showed the world that China is so advanced that the West is now "third world" in comparison!

The Steve Fosset Interview!
I knew Steve, and this crap is making me sick. I hope his wife isn't seeing this. Its very upsetting. If Steve was planning on going into another dimention he would have let those around him know what was going on, so a wild goose chase would not have been started. I hope they find his remains soon so this nonsense will end!

That reminds me of another story we poted a while ago, that a man who was (or SAID he was) Fosset's friend claimed that he had been contacted by Fosset's wife, telling him how his husband had appeared/materialized/teleported/? on their residence, and told her he was very happy living in a world where there was no money and no wars.
Does anyone remember that one? I would look it up but I'm kinda busy right now.

Red Pill I'm not upsett with you.
Its just when someone in the spot light dies or in this case vanishes, I wish stuff like this won't happen. Maybe this fellow really thinks he's talking to Steve. But I really doubt it. There was another effort this last week to find Steve, because of new info on his flight path. I don't believe anything new came to light. He was the type of man who took risks, but had a team behind him. He didn't put in a flight plan, I don't know why. Or why the device thats set off in a crash didn't, so he could be found. Its not an area to crash in. In looking for Steve, several other old wreaks were found, and other families found peace. Its a nice thought that he's still alive in some other plane of existence. And if he is, he needs to get his ass back here now. He's missed.

It seems so odd, in this day and age,that a person son famous (and wealthy) could so vanish from the face of the Earth without a trace. We reject that notion because we've come to believe that the world is getting smaller everyday thanks to our technology.
But the world is a pretty darn big place.

That Chrome thing...
I've just installed it, and I'm using it right now and trying to get the hang of it.
My first impression is that it's much quicker than IE (yes, I know I shouldn't be using the devil's tools, but I'm lazy and I never installed Firefox).
Another interesting feature is that it has spell correction. That will help me from making another
BifgootFubar like last Tuesday. Although I'm suspecting it will become increasingly annoying, specially if I begin to mix English with Spanish, the way I often do.I'll let you know of my progress, and also if in the coming weeks men in Humvees come to pick me up... Well, if they DO come to pick me up, letting you know will be kind of difficult. But you're a smart bunch, you'll figure it out ;-)
[UPDATE] Chrome has a tough time loading all my apps from my iGoogle page... kind of ironic actually. But of course, this is the Beta version, so I shouldn't be too hard on them.

yes it's funny that Chrome would have problems with Google things.
Isn't everything that Google does called beta? So that people can't go after them in case it fails? Used to be that way some time ago, maybe they changed it. Gmail has been around for years, and it is still beta. A way to avoid legal responsibilities I think - "we never claimed that it works."

I haven't had problems with Gmail, and I've been using it for at least 2 years.
iGoogle is a nice idea, but it still pretty shaky. Also, I seem to have like 4 clocks on my desktop, and still the only real clock I use to tell the time is the old fashioned one attached at the Windows bar.
I think the main WTF? caused by Chrome is the fact these guys decided to launch their own browser, even though they've supported Firefox for years. According to them, it's better to start from scratch, and if you have a google of dollars, maybe it's true.
What do you think is best: Firefox or Safari?

Where are the Google Bookmarks?
Chrome seems to be "Chrome plated plastic" - light on features including, ironically Google Bookmarks! I can not find how to install it. Also as you said no spell checker...a must for me at least.
I agree, everything Google does seems to be in beta...so if it screws up that's why...!

Think about this for just a second. Windows OS needs to work on almost an infinite combination of hardware while Apple OS is tailor coded to work only on Apple designed and tightly controlled hardware. So you would think that Apple Macs would never crash...but crash they do! The dreaded "Grey Screen of Death!"
My iPod NANO (2nd Gen 8g) will crash for no apparent reason and all it has are songs on it. (?)
I think the problem with MS Vista is its dumbed down way too much . There are just tooooo many people who can not even use a microwave much less a computer. Oh wait that's Apple's hook!
So perhaps Microsoft ought to have two versions of Windows - one dumbed down far enough so all the computer Darwin "awardees" can't hurt themselves (and others) and a second version for people who actually know how to use a computer.
So Microsoft, how about it?

apparently firefox just released a new, faster, javascript engine...so maybe firefox will end up being faster than chrome. that being said, having a separate engine run each tab is a godsend when pages crash.

That's what appealed me to try Chrome. I effing hate it when I have 15 websites open, and suddenly one of them crashes and the entire browser shuts down. I'm also tired of having to find some way to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to my OS whenever there's no more memory left. You start closing windows and applications, but after a while you're forced to restart.
