Hey, this website is 10 years old. That's pretty damn good going for an almost-updated-daily website with no operating budget and a complete lack of editorial qualifications. I guess we must do something right. Most of the credit for that "right" has to go to the amazing admins that we've had over the years, who've worked their butts off collecting news, in order to help out the community - big props to all of them*, a big thanks from me on behalf of both myself, and all TDG readers (I'd list their names, but I'm doped up to the eyeballs and I'd forget someone and be eternally ashamed of myself).
Thanks also to all you readers out there that hang out, discuss the topics, spread the word, send thanks, news tips, comments, advice, and offer me membership in the Illuminati (yes, I still get about ten a year). The site has always been about community, and all you guys are therefore an intrinsic part of the Grail gestalt.
I'd say more, but I'm not very well. Maybe I'll celebrate when my eyeballs stop hurting. But anyway, happy birthday to us!

Happy 10 year birthday. I wonder. Why is it that a free spirited community like ours have problems with getting the dollars flying in to the daily grail? It is our place on the net.Almost like a tribes meeting point in the middle of the village. Not everyone speaks out, but sometimes it is very okay to just sit still and listen. Don't let our tribe vanish. Every one is important. And almost everyone can contribute with some cash. So, come on and give back to the grail. And thank you Greg for your wonderful work. It really matter for me to meet all you folks here every day. You might not see me posting, but I am here! Again thank you Greg and the rest of the grail staff.

What makes a tribe? Is it merely the sense of belonging or do you need some physical connection eg.this site, the centre of a village etc?
Daily Grail has always reminded more of a coffee shop down a back alley than the centre of the village(maybe it's the black background!).Now, where's the cake?

I think coffee shop and center of the village is the same thing. You can pop in and out any time and for any reason, Please do not get me wrong. I do not need a connection. It is just nice to be with like minded people. No big deal.
size matters
I think that size is both an advantage, and disadvantage for TDG.
The advantage is that the number of people involved in the discussions here is moderate. You sort of know what their attitudes are, so you know how to interpret their posts. And you know how to talk to them, after a little while. Discussions don't get drowned out by thousands of posters with some ideology. On other sites, like slashdot or most newspaper sites, someone with an unusual but reasonable opinion is simply shouted down by the masses.
Of course the disadvantage is the the relatively small number of regulars has relatively small financial resources.

As a long time member I heartily congratulate Greg and crew for all the hard work and many hundreds of hours of reading pleasure they have brought me. There is no chance I would be as informed as I am now about alternative topics were it not for The Daily Grail.
For all those who have enjoyed all the fine material but have yet to chip in, Now's the Time! What better birthday present than a donation?

One of the surprising details which even I found out from that (apart from that it was a god awful excuse for a website) is that TDG's birthday is actually August 30th. Oops!
Also interesting to note is the huge emphasis on alternative history stuff, whereas now I'm far more interested in consciousness. And behold, the genesis of the feared "News Briefs":

Back in the good old days of coding *everything* by hand, uploading each new page to the server via FTP, and archiving all the old material by hand and having to update every changed link by hand. Unbelievable, it's a wonder I didn't lose my mind. Ah, hang on a second it's all making sense now...

What a website! What a crew! (What a HELLUVA lotta work!!!)
You guys/gals doth fully roque -- the News Briefs are like coffee and, ah, other needful wake-up things. I grumble dirtily when circumstances impede my morning briefing, on what we just found out we didn't know -- about the past, the present, the future, our minds, our lack of minds, our pets' and plants' bigger minds, and all such manner of grooviness.
Sir Greg: I feel your pain; while Big Sur burned this summer, my mouth caught fire and required an emergency root canal and crown. Better now, save for the front tooth that splintered in a pizza two weeks ago :-P

Quite true, your comment about our descendants reading this.
In the old days, little of what people wrote made it to public knowledge. Few personal letters were preserved, and very little was published.
These days many of our idle thoughts could be preserved for the long run. This could turn out to be quite emberassing :)
