I have already mentioned that my dreams can be very vivid. In recent years it has been difficult to remember them well enough to write them down although I hope this is changing.
However, I had a snippet of a dream a couple of days ago which I hope someone can interpret for me.
I wanted to help a handful of ants. I encouraged them to enter through a small gap in the floorboards at the corner of the room. I left the room and went back, and saw the whole floor covered in ants! Masses of them. Where they had come from I don't know. I did not want to hurt them, but I couldn't bear to go into the room. I then woke up.
I cannot understand this dream at all. Ants are usually considered to be something to do with industry, or work, but somehow this interpretation doesn't work for me, and I often find that interpretations are more dependent upon what people have seen before, or believe in, rather than set blanket type meanings for all!
Any ideas? I actually am allergic to ants which is why I do a lot less in the garden now as any ant walking on my skin causes blotches.

Perhaps this is a fear or warning of a little help leading to major commitment. Or a fear of non-reciprocation; once you'd let them in, the ants were interested only in their own.
Why ants? Perhaps it's more to do with them living as cogs in a machine rather than their work itself.

Ants are also an allegory of mindless drones wo do nothing but work and do as they are told without question, you know? Beings whose life means nothing but endless toil until their death comes. Remember that famous story about the Cicada and the ant? Although in that one the ant gets to be right, and the cicada is viewed as the bohemian hippy; but if they were to make a remake of the story in 2008, the cicada would be the multi-millionaire pop singer who lives in a mansion, why the ant would still be suffering a 9-5 workshift and barely affording to pay the rent of its blue-collar little apartment ;-)

Matt, it could be a warning, and normally I would have thought that as I am rather wary of ants, but for some reason I wanted to help these ants, and when it was only a few I did not mind, it was when there was a whole floorful that I began to want to leave them alone, yet in my heart I still wanted to help. Perhaps there is something coming that actually I want to help with but somehow should leave well alone?
RPJ, I like your allegory, but somehow I still feel there is a slightly different answer.
Perhaps the truth will show itself sometime in the future, later, after whatever is expected to happen will happen.

Maybe the ants are immigrants?
If they are a few it's ok; if they come flooding the land it becomes a problem, and you find yourself being not as simpathetic.

Update - Prophetic?

Today, at work, I went to the ground floor and visited the Ladies Toilet. I saw what I thought could be either a spider or an ant on the wall. I honestly didn't want to believe it was the latter.
I then went to wash my hands and found lots of them wandering around the taps and the sink, as well as some on the floor.
I mentioned to the boss, who admitted they were ants, and suggested I talk to the girls in the ground floor office. Apparently they had been indundated by ants last week, when neither my boss or I were in. They had managed to get enough chemicals to apparently clear their own office, but it seems the ants have now gone into the place next door, the ladies toilet.
Clearly, this dream was a precognitive dream, however, it also occurred when ants had already been wandering around for others to be aware of. Could it have been a telepathic response of which I was not consciously aware? Or could it have been a prophetic dream? I am still not clear on this, but it would appear that there is some form of communication at work here on a different level which I managed to pick up and/or tap into.
I honestly was not aware of any ants in the workplace prior to the dream.
Maybe rain is coming
Ants move upwards (taking their eggs with them) several days before rain - at least they do in Australia! The more ants that are on the move, the more rain they are expecting. A variaty known as Meat Ants (which have a nasty bite) build little walls around the entrance to their nests to keep run-off water out. If a flood is to happen they grow wings and fly.
Ants are very smart little creatures, so keep an eye on the skies!

Thanks Kathrinn. I was not aware of these facts. These are very small ants, but I am wary of any of them. I don't want large painful blotches again! I will watch out for the rain, but then there has been so much recently I will not be surprised if we get lots of it.
