I have to agree with the statements here that the news is controlled by the media, and it is to the detriment of honesty and free speech which is vital for true communication.
As for the news stories given above, I know these things have been going on, and I feel for the people affected by these actions. I have found several governments in the world to be totally hypocritical in what they do, and many of the participants are basically afraid (cowards) of others and what may happen.
In the past people have been more than willing to stand up for what they believed even if it brought death, but today the so-called motives/causes are invalid. None of them are accurate and only serve a select few who don't need the support/help.
I have found it hypocritical that Israel (the country) would put up its own wall, creating apartheid, which it has said it abhored in the past. I wouuld say the same to any country which condemned such actions then proceeded to do those condemned actions themselves. Hypocrisy abounds in this world, not just in politics, but the media, big business, even religions of all descriptions.
No wonder I have lost all trust in any form of authority!

Did all this violence start because of Apartheid type behavior on the part of the Israelis? The answer is no, it started because it is the stated aim of Yassr Arafat and his offshoot organizations to 'Wipe Israel off the Map' and to push it's people 'Into the Sea'.

You make a valid point ASM, and yet we musn't allow ourselves to oversimplify the israeli-palestinian problem.
And, may I remind you that the israelis themselves favored terrorist tactics when they were not a recognized nation. They killed several british soldiers with bombs back then.
Believe me, I do not shed one tear for a man who chooses to become a terrorist and decides to hurt civilians. And I do wish something was done to put a stop in the circle of violence that permits children to be taught that they need to grab a gun to do God's will.
And yet, is the israeli approach the right one? To make such broad generalizations and treat any palestinian as a potential criminal, to punish al the members of an ethnic or socal group for the actions of a few idiots? Because when you do that then you resort to the sort of tactics that were implemented not only on South African Apartheid, but also on the Nazi Germany. And sooner or later you start to think about things like "Final Solutions"...
And the most amazing thing about it is the fact that the israelis have grown accostumed to living in a perennial state of fear. Fear of external and internal threats alike; and see such solutions like the walls and the military checkpoints as a common thing. It is mind-boggling actually.

RPJ, I agree with every word you said in your recent post.
As my grandfather died in a German Concentration Camp, and my German ancestors were split into two different countries when the wall, and the iron curtain, went up, I can understand how people can feel in Israel. But in the end we have to look at things in a way that takes us beyond the immediate. Israel, as a country, is doing things I would not be happy about. Yes, its people are living in a constant state of fear, and this is now being spread to other countries. This sort of attitude is detrimental to people's personal health, and sanity.
Yes, there have been bombs let off by terrorists, but this hasn't been done only by Arabs, but other races too. Personally, I remember when the IRA (Irish Republican Army) and other Irish terrorist groups were being rampant in the UK we still did not stop the Irish people coming to live on mainland Britain. There were rules and laws which still had to be obeyed and it was recognised that many of these Irish immigrants were normal, law abiding people who were no danger to the rest of our society. Britain didn't put up a physical barrier as Israel, and in the past, the Soviet Union did in Germany (Berlin).
Life went on, and this was despite two attempts by one particular person to blow up some petrol/oil tanks situated only a short distance from our home! He said he was an IRA sympathiser. Just as well he failed because it could have been a truly serious disaster with many people killed, including me!
This hasn't stopped me looking at the situation with a wider mindset.
Our leaders of all persuasions are not interested in the welfare of the ordinary person. They are, I believe, creating terror and raising fear in our minds because they want us to accept the curtailing of our liberties so they can achieve what they can't achieve otherwise - our slavery.
There is supposed to a War on Terror - I believe it is a War on Terra! (The whole Earth).
