Thanks much for posting this, Greg. It's a beautiful video, shot by Anton Corbijn (he's just directed a film about Joy Division's leadsinger Ian Curtis). All I Want Is You was the song that introduced me to U2, and Rattle & Hum was the first cd I ever bought too (Amazon).
The 20th anniversary of The Joshua Tree is getting released soon too, so if you're looking for an introduction to U2, that would be a great way to start.
For a laugh at 1985 haircuts, and a brilliant performance of a heartbreaking song, check out U2 at Live Aid Part I and Part II (it's 12 minutes long and this is the best recording I could find). Ah, brings back memories. I'm wide awake.
Here's video of U2 performing their brilliant song One with orchestra at the 2003 Special Olympics in Dublin. It's the best performance of One ever, the orchestral strings lift it to another level. And when Edge's guitar kicks in towards the end, it's stunning. Beautiful.
We're one, but we're not the same, we get to carry each other...
Wow, funny syncronicity - I watched the review of Corbijn's new movie last week, and thought it looked really good (and beautiful camera usage). At the same time, I was admiring this film clip, and how artistic it is. And yet didn't know it was the same guy...
20th anniversary of Joshua Tree...how old does that make me feel! To think, that's to teenagers today, what Hendrix and the Beatles were to me, era-wise...bizarre.
Kind regards,
Greg

You monkeys only think you're running things
Bono just called me. It wasn't Anton Corbijn who directed the video for All I Want Is You, it was Meiert Avis. Bono says Corbijn wishes he directed it.
But there is a Corbijn/U2 connection, he's been their unofficial photographer for over 20 years. Maynard should give him a call.
/sigh I can't believe I made such a mistake, I'll never be able to wear my U2 tour tshirt again.
And yeah, we're definitely getting old Greg! I can't believe it's almost 20 years since I first heard All I Want Is You. Where does the time fly? Watch the 1985 Live Aid video, it was the performance that catapulted U2 into superstardom, a defining moment. Coincidentally, Rage showed a Jimi Hendrix performance from Woodstock on the weekend. Incredible.
Here's U2 performing Bullet The Blue Sky in 1988 (listen to Bono's speech in the middle!). It's the closest the Edge has ever been to channeling Hendrix (Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner opens the song). Recorded in 1986 for The Joshua Tree album, it's just as relevant to today's politics as it was in the Reagan era. Awesome (and quite scary that nothing has changed in 20 years).
The best performance of Bullet The Blue Sky in my opinion is the multimedia cyberpunk explosion of U2's 1993 ZooTV version of Bullet The Blue Sky (in response to the first Gulf War!). I prefer this version, and the flaming crosses on the tv screens makes it extra special.
And as an added treat for Red Pill Junkie, here's one of my favourite U2 songs, Until The End of The World (Mexico City 1997).
Thanks much for posting

I think I can put my U2 tshirt back on now. ;-)
