The White Crow

I’ve mentioned the book Ghost Hunters (Amazon US and UK) a number of times here on TDG – not least because the author, Deborah Blum, seems to have one heck of a publicist, but also because I think it covers an extremely important period of scientific research. Blum’s book looks into the involvement of the ‘father of psychology’, William James, in psychical research, and discusses fascinating topics such as the mediumship of Leonora Piper and the validity of the ‘survival’ hypothesis. You can find an excellent summary of the book, and interview with Blum, in this recent article: “In Search of White Crows“. It’s interesting to see the evolution of Blum’s thinking over the course of writing the book…which to some extent mirrors that of Richard Hodgson in the course of his investigations.

  1. How many times do we have to say it
    Comment by Deborah Blum
“I like the idea that the supernatural is merely a realm of the natural that we haven’t figured out yet. And if that’s right, if we’re determined enough, we’ll get some better answers. They may surprise us – for instance, physicists haven’t identified all forms of energy yet. Perhaps we haven’t found the mechanism because we haven’t found the wavelength it uses.”

This is it, and Colette is going to be very interested in this also. Wave lengths. Love, Pam —————————–Truth is stranger than fiction.

    1. Aren’t scientists funny
They worry so much that what they know is going to be taken from them.
      It won’t be.
But what they think they know, will.

      1. Excellent …
Shadows, you’re becoming profound. Such a long way from the ‘fart in the colandar.’

          1. Both
I liked both. To paraphrase Einstein: ‘Humour without knowledge is lame, knowledge without humour is blind.’

  2. Tagline for VERITAS
If you wish to upset the law that all crows are black, you mustn’t seek to prove that no crows are; it is enough to prove one single crow to be white.
