Have you considered that the most logical explanation to Corby's conviction is that she is guilty? Only the hopelessly naive, caught up in the hype and hysteria could believe the incredible conspiracy theory that is doing the rounds. Consider the theory:
Corrupt person 1: A check-in counter staff member from an airline company in Brisbane decides that Corby's bag will be the one to be used to smuggle drugs to Sydney, so he/she doesn't weight the bag, but marks it some how for corrupt person 2.
Corrupt person 2: A baggage handler is out back waltzing around with a CLEAR plastic bag containing grass. He gets a text message from the counter staff identifing the bag. Wow, what a co-incidence, the bag fits neatly.
Corrupt person 3: A security officer working for the Brisbane Airport Corporation (nothing to do with the airline), gets a text message 'destroy the tape of CORBY getting onto the flight'. He does as he is told.
Corrupt person 4: A baggage handler at Sydney airport. Forgets to take the dope out of CORBY's bag and off it goes to Bali.
Corrupt people 5 & 6: Two custom's officials at Bali find the dope and for no good reason, decide to lie their souls out by saying that Corby was evasive when questioned, and pushed their hands away as they tried to open the bag.
Come on people - wake up. Schapelle Corby looks like 'the-girl-next-door' so we love here and want her back. But let's not overlook the simple explanation that she tried to smuggle a heap of dope into Bali (complacently - because it may be her 2nd or third go) deliberately not placing a lock on her bag, thinking that the old 'I didn't know it was there' argument would work for an attractive Aussie girl. If Schapelle Corby was male, ugly, covered in tatts and missing teeth, Australia wouldn't give a rats ass about him.

thinking 'outside of the box', shame on you
You are probably correct, especially about Corby's complacency. What has been of interest to me is the manipulation involved in this case. Mostly by the media of the Australian public, certainly, but by the possibility that Corby has in fact manipulated the media. It's an interesting phenomenon of the media's relationship with the public that sensational stories like this one can generate a dichotomy of seduction.
Whenever there is doubt, as in the Azaria Chamberlain disappearance or that fellow's claim to have been lost in the Himalayas for weeks and survived in a cave eating only chocolate (can't recall his name), the media eventually forks off. One faction runs 'the truth' for all its worth while the other - such as 60 Minutes, Derryn Hinch etc - try to get more mileage out of the suspicion of 'credibilty', which also generates more media dollars. Princess Di is another example of media vulturism which eventually paid off with her 'mysterious' death. It's all good press at the time.
What concerns me the most is that so many Australians have become emotionally involved with a nondescript woman they have never met. This reminds me of the American obsession with 'celebrity', recently evidenced at Reagan's funeral. How can you mourn a 'name'? How can you feel emotionally connected to a vision on a screen or a newspaper? I had always believed that we (as Australians) were beyond this lunacy, but apparently not.
It's nuts, all of it. I'm looking at this from afar now because I live in New York City, but I'll admit that this irrational, emotional, vehement and racist attitude of Australians towards Indonesians dismays and embarrasses me. Are we still so short on self esteem that we need to resuscitate our "Ned Kelly" complex? Are we so short of heroes that we need to continue to seek them outside the law? It's sickening. This Corby woman is a NOBODY and yet has more support than the many Australians who did some good in this world, like Fred Hollows.
We are notorious throughout the world for our racism and there is nothing like backing someone into a corner to see their true colours (and didn't the Corby family show theirs on the day of her conviction!). Let me tell you that Australia has become the laughing stock of the planet because of this blind belief in this woman who was CAUGHT with an absurd amount of an illegal substance in a country which makes it very clear what its stance is on possession.
To all you Corby supporters: STAY OUT OF BALI. The island will be better off without you.
