Kimmo

Hi,

Sometimes one comes across music that - even for an eclectic music fan like me- makes you wonder why it took so long to reach me. On the face of it the accordian isnt the instrument that captures my vibe , Kimmo Pohjonen however has.
Lately Finland has offered great fusion acts like Nightwish (opera singer &gothmetal) , or Apokalyptica (cellos go metal) they have shown the world there's more to Suomi than Nokia, F1 cracks or snowboard champions. So now we can add Kimmo Pohjonento the list. In finland Kimmo's been an acclaimed musician for almost a decade , in continental europe inroads have been made these last years, for the US he's still a complete unknown. Reasons enough to give him a little push here.
How to describe his music hmm, stirring and eerie (snow)desert music- largely instrumental some vocal use - no lyrics. His live shows are accompanied by extraordinairy light shows (auroral influence) , or as one fan put it ;

"The squeeze box electronica of Kimmo Pohjonen, the accordian liberated from the fag-lit, waistcoated buskers and pearly kings. The deconstruction and reassemblage of the tuneful noises that Kimmo milks from his breathing instrument is mysterious and uplifting, and reminiscent of all things BANGING.
