A Prayer for a Friend
Posted by red pill junkie at 20:20, 21 Nov 2010
I received an e-mail from Susan, a dear friend of mine.
Her blog If You're Going Through Hell Keep Going describes her long and arduous battle against clinical depression and other serious health problems. When I read her entries it makes me realize I really have shit to complaint about!
Her short message said that she had to go to the hospital to receive dialysis treatment. Her kidneys just "shut down." I was raised a Catholic, but time went by I became more and more distanced with my former faith.
Nevertheless, I still believe in the power of prayer, even though the reason why it actually works is still a mystery to me.
So this is an open request to make a little prayer for my friend Susan. Also, if you'd like to leave a little encouraging message on her blog, I'm sure she'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

as someone who has a step-brother suffering from dramatic and sometimes caustic outbreaks of depression, i understand what you are going through. he has been suffering all his life thanks to a dreadful childhood with an even more psychotic father. i will pray for your friend and you.
...I forgot how I got here but everyone seems to be heading off in that direction. I hope someone brought food. I have a feeling this is going to be a long journey................

Depression is such an insidious disease. My friend's recent kidney problem is the result of decades of lithium consumption --Thanks a lot, Big Pharma!
I'm sure my friend will greatly appreciate your gesture :)

So sorry to hear about your friend - depression in a very difficult thing to deal with, particularly as it so often appears to have no cause. Although I don't altogether believe in the effect of prayers, I will send one for Susan, and also direct some positive energy to her.
Best wishes to you and Susan - Kathrinn

Thank you Kathrinn.
It's possible that the effectiveness of prayer doesn't actually come from some deity receiving them in the mail. Maybe it's more of an unconscious release of positive energy, as you describe.
