Another TV Synchronicity / Coincidence

I've noted before about some television synchronicities (or just plain coincidences) that have occurred. Last night another one: I switched on the TV and 'The Big Bang Theory' was on. I pointed out that one of the characters looked like Johnny Galecki/'David' from the Roseanne sitcom, and that I hadn't seen him in anything else for at least 10 years. After the show finished, we decided to watch Will Smith's superhero movie 'Hancock' - in which Johnny Galecki makes an appearance. Nothing for 10 or more years, and then twice in the space of an hour. Coincidence, or glitch in the matrix?

It's further confirmation that, not only youre a 'Goofy Antiscience Guy', but you have terrible taste in movies!

PS: I'm only kidding. Hancock ain't that bad ;-)

When is a synchronicity not a synchronicity? When it's a mundane coincidence.

But how much meaning is meaningful? Where do you draw the line between a mundane coincidence and a life-changing one?

The problem is in defining what's "life-changing". If doing something for 2 extra minutes made me stay inside and avoid a car crash that was 'destined' to kill me, it would be life-changing. But I wouldn't know it.

Kind regards,
Greg

True, but your example sucks. Synchronicity is about awareness of significant coincidences, otherwise how could they have any meaning?

I don't think that a line can be drawn. We look for meaning in all coincidences, and some are interpreted as having more personal significance than others. The more that meaning speaks to our inner life, the more 'synchronistic' the experience.

Good points. The reason I'm finding this (and the previously mentioned) incidents interesting, is because I personally don't watch much TV at all. I see coincidences all the time, but don't find any meaning in them (spend hours on the 'net each day, and you know you're going to see plenty)...I'm pretty good at just saying "that's a coincidence"...but this 'cluster' relating to TV is starting to feel rather odd.

Maybe God is just trying to tell me I should watch more TV. Yeah, that's probably it. ;)

Kind regards,
Greg

More likely God's way of telling you you should watch less TV, methinks!

I've experienced some heavy synchronicity in my time, but I'm not a fan of so-called 'synchromysticism', which is an entirely different animal, and seems to be all about trying a little too hard to find deeper meaning in pop culture, as far as I can tell.

The same thing just happened to me too. My grandfather asked me last weekend to go with him to New Zealand for 10 days in January, to the south island. All week I've had Jurassic Park on my mind, because it was filmed there. I turn on the tv half an hour ago (like Greg, I never watch tv), and guess what's on? Jurassic Park.

Hopefully it doesn't mean I'll be dodging 'raptors.

Funnily enough, computers and electronics tend to not work properly when I'm around too.

or some reason last week I spend a lot of time watching Youtube clips of Tenacious D, reading the Wikipedia entry on their movie "Tenacious D & the Pick of Destiny", which to my knowledge was never released here in Mexico. I became obsessed with the band and with the desire to watch this flick.

Well, guess what movie I watched today at 4 pm on HBO? And it won't show up until Dec 25th again according to SKY schedule.

I agree these synchs are not really ground-breaking events in our lives, but they are interesting phenomena nonetheless.
