First Trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s Latest Movie: CHAPPIE

Zef Yeah! The first trailer is out for the new Neill Blomkamp [District 9, Elysium] movie CHAPPIE, co-starring Ninja and Yo-landi Vi$$er from Die Antwoord:

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

The journey from machine to man (or man to alien) is a subject Neill has been exploring through much of his work. Here’s two short films of his from the 2000s that are part of that:

I think what everybody wants to know right now, is whether Chappie’s gonna be a guest in Die Antwoord’s new video.

    “I fink you’re conscious and I like you a looot!” 😉

    1. of course I’ve had that lyric
of course I’ve had that lyric looping in my head for hours now. I really hope they do make an album together. Apparently Die Antwoord have been involved for years on this, so who knows just what is coming

This actually looks like a promising film, as do many for 2015 and beyond. It may make me want to go to the movies again. On the other hand I hope this film doesn’t fall into bad ratings from critics who are looking at the fact that it is very similar to other robot formulas for films (like Johnny 5 and A.I.), in the sense that an innocent child-like machine gets into trouble with those who want to take him apart or see him as a enemy to humanity. I hope not because I am looking forward to this film.
