This Must Be the Place: Reflections About Life and Death from an Old Mariner

In our present culture, growing old is viewed as an hourglass tragically running out of sand. For an old Danish mariner it means becoming “full of days,” and hence the opposite.

This Must Be the Place is a touching reflection about how a life well lived can only result in a good death.

Have YOU found your place yet?

  1. My wife has always tried to
My wife has always tried to reassure me that the most interesting people are the ones who still don’t know what they want to do in life, nor where their place is in the grand scheme of things.

I don’t know if I am “there”, or if it’s just inertia. I love the ocean and how the seasons work at the shore, but I desperately miss Colorado, being outside, and the ability to drive ninety minutes for solitude.

I admire this man for being so healthy, probably thirty years my senior, and knowing everything about his life. Even though he’s retired, he surrounds himself with the sea, immerses himself (pun intended), and it’s a part of him as much as he’s a part of it.

    Thank you for sharing.
