Useful idiot

Quote of the Day:

The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.

To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.

To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.

I re-read Sudman’s slim volume “The Application Of Impossible Things” about her NDE in Iraq quite a lot lately because it is so different from the usual NDE fare, and Sudman has a good critical mind; and she doesn’t take much seriously especially so after her NDE which convinced her that the “other side” has a big sense of non-judgmental humor about the human predicament on this rather hairy physical plane. She also explains with some originality and empirical detail how “probable realities” may operate and partially conjoin at times.

Sudman’s account reminded me of a story I heard about the writer James Dickey being phoned in the middle of the night by a friend threatening suicide to which Dickey simply replied, “OK, you take care now” and then hung up the phone. Sudman herself claimed to have petitioned the entities to let her leave the earth plane because she was so tired and especially so after getting shredded by an IED in Iraq, but the entities were such comedians about her predicament that she relaxed into an idea that she had been taking her earth life much too seriously and that if she just let it flow then she might find earth time much more engaging even when things got nasty, and besides what she “saw” during her interlude was that the sweetness and light of the other side is not everlasting for most of us anyway – it’s a place of rest but not eternal rest – we get tossed back into the quagmire again and again. This is the book the potential suicides enchanted by the siren song of peace everlasting should read especially if they have had no truck with Eastern mysticism.

On my bucket list is getting to meet and talk with Sudman.

“Natalie Sudman: From this environment it’s like I can see the whole scene of the blown up truck and everything going on down there and my body in that truck. I can see the injuries that I left this body with. So what we’re doing is we’re changing those.
This really good friend of mine with me here, we’re actually fooling around a lot. We’re like, okay, let’s lop off her right arm, and then we’d immediately see this whole lifetime of me with all the details; I’m trying to do everything with my left hand, and we thought that was hilarious. We’re falling down laughing. Or okay, let’s fix her head but let’s leave her with some brain damage so she can’t talk, and that’s funny to us in that environment. It’s not funny here, but it was hilarious from there.”

“Bob Olson, Afterlife TV: I thought it was brilliant because it really kind of helps us get a sense of what the whole self perspective would be or whatever, any being in this spiritual place looking at human life with great humor and, like you said, laughter. For those who can’t understand it, because I’ve been there, why is it so funny to these spiritual beings?
Natalie Sudman: Because whatever we experience in the physical is so small, is so minor. I mean it’s important, but it doesn’t last forever. It’s perceived as a blink. So what to us when we’re in our physical perspective can just be horrifying and endless and excruciating, even then once we’re out of our bodies and can see it from a larger perspective, we perceive how insignificant that was and yet how significant whatever we learned through doing that is.”
