It's good to hear the King (Animal)

Quote of the Day:

The beauties of the solid and material universe are but a part of the rich spectrum of existence. The one-tenth of an iceberg that is visible above the tideline of reality. Matter is that part of being that has crystallised, where the mind's light has petrified to concrete substance.

Alan Moore ('Promethea')

he's seems very sober while do this, or maybe i've seen worse trips. Anyone else read his name as Gary Bussy instead of DeBussy? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...

...I forgot how I got here but everyone seems to be heading off in that direction. I hope someone brought food. I have a feeling this is going to be a long journey................

The essential flaw in our search for intelligent life is that we continue searching for ourselves using highly questionable assumptions, such as:

1. All intelligent life must yearn to explore the cosmos because we do. Therefore, star ships and space stations and communications signals to them that we can detect must be out there somewhere. But, it's entirely possible that space exploration is an urge unique to our species and isn't universal among all forms of advanced intelligence.

2. We're looking for advanced versions of mid-20th century human technology. Technology developed by an alien brain may very well be undetectable and unrecognizable to our mind set. It could be there in plain sight, but we're unable to conceive of a way to identify it because it's so far removed from what we know.

3. Technology equals intelligence because technology is a hallmark of intelligence in humans. We can't even begin to grasp the possibility that a very advanced civilization in another life form could also be low tech.

4. Intelligent civilizations must resemble those that science fiction created in 19th, 20th, and 21st century European-American literature, art, drama, film, and television. We are so wedded to images and concepts from that fiction, we are unable to conduct a truly objective search for extraterrestrial civilizations.
