Oh I want this to be real. A concern is the strength necessary to flap the wings. The movement is known as a Pec Fly - for pectorals fly. It primarily incorporates the group of muscles and connective tissue in the chest and shoulders known as the pectorals and rotator cuff (among other muscles). All these muscles under this specific movement are relatively weak in humans and prone to strains and terrors in this type of movement. A much stronger movement is the chest press aka bench or dumbbell press - which is a pushing movement, not the flapping or fly movement required here. Sure he uses reducing gears no doubt similar to a multi-speed bicycle, but to me any person's ability to have the strength and endurance necessary to flap these wings under the forces of flight are unlikely, especially without suffering injury to the muscles, tendons and ligaments involved. This comes from my experience as GM and personal trainer of health clubs for 13 years.

Supposedly these guys are using Wii controllers as a mean to translate the um, pilot's (?) flapping movements to their mechanical contraption. If indeed real, it wouldn't be actually a human-powered craft, but a case of mechanical strength augmentation.
*If* it's true.
Because if it's fake, then these guys have certainly raised the bar in terms of elaboration :-/
It's not the depth of the rabbit hole that bugs me...

...I forgot how I got here but everyone seems to be heading off in that direction. I hope someone brought food. I have a feeling this is going to be a long journey................

Emphasis on the con.
If the inventors really did achieve flight, the guy must be aiming for a Darwin Award, or spending a year in hospital eating through a straw. This Icarus wouldn't even get close to a streetlight. Melbourne's annual Bird Man Rally was just the other week, but 2013 applications are now open.
I hope Jeb Corliss challenges them to a duel.
