Priceless…

Quote of the Day:

If you look at the major religions, freedom from choice is something people often choose voluntarily. It allows people to look in themselves.

Peter Gabriel, launching his latest venture: the Filter

  1. choice quote
I’m still trying to work out that quote from Peter Gabriel.

Freedom from choice is a consequence of making a choice.

The consumer choice/religious austerity comparison seems rather shallow.

    1. 403 forbidden
Apparently the link leads to a place reserved for the truly sacred, because I am not allowed there.

As for the bear, I’m certain that he would have been a danger to humans there. Hungry polar bears will eat anyone.

        1. serious play
All the playing that I have seen predators do looks like practice for hunting and fighting. So let’s not fool ourselves, it is not all that innocent.

if everything is under control, you are not going fast enough (Mario Andretti)

it’s not how fast you go, it’s who gets there first

          1. play is NEVER inocent
Playing between mammals is a modified practice of hunting and dominance fighting, but with an entertaining goal.

Which is not so different from human playing (we are still mammals after all)

Any kind of human game we can think of has a subliminal intention that has nothing to do with inocence:

What is Football but a decaffeinated version of war?

What are dolls but indoctrinating methods of sexist conditioning?

What is ‘Monopoly’ but the training of kids in the nuances and rules of capitalism?

What is ‘Clue’ but a reminder that nothing is what it seems and you must suspect of anybody at any time?

What is ‘Scrabble’ but an applied lesson that “knowledge is power”?

  2. Tony Blair and religion
It has been so nice not to have to watch Blair on tv here in the UK over the last 12 months. Now that he has a new faith, I just hope that he goes to confession and comes clean about the Iraq invasion and those weapons of mass destruction.

And to think that I once voted for him…

    1. Hey!
Maybe he could enter Opus Dei! I mean, if what you want is chatolic guilt, why don’t going all the way man? 🙂

    2. confession won’t help
Confession is strictly confidential, more confidential than medical stuff. So it won’t help if he does confess.

it’s not how fast you go, it’s who gets there first

      1. What??
Confession confidential? Now that’s a good one! 🙂

Ok, throwing the cynism aside, if you read the catechism you learn that if someone approaches a priest to confess a crime, the priest must encourage that person to come clean and admit the guilt, otherwise there’s no absolution.

        1. Religion beware
With Blair moving in on religion, they need to watch out. They could be at risk. And if you think they’re too strong to be affected by his ‘magic’, so was the British constitutional system before he dismantled it.
Blair is always after the top jobs, anyway. So, watch out God!
