Secret Chambers in the Great Pyramid

Mucho news coverage today of the ‘discovery’ of Khufu’s actual burial chamber in the Great Pyramid. Now first off, let’s get this straight – it’s not a “discovery”, or the revelation “of the existence of the chambers”, it’s just a hypothesis at this stage. Having got that out of the way, let’s dig in to the speculation.

This new hypothesis for the true burial chamber of Khufu has been put forward by French architect Jean-Pierre Houdin, and is based on similar known chambers in (Khufu’s father) Sneferu’s ‘Red’ pyramid at Dahshur, and a floor-level block in the King’s Chamber of Khufu’s pyramid which doesn’t actually support the blocks above it (see the Talking Pyramids website for the full explanation):

If true, this would be a spectacular discovery. But I think at this stage it’s still to be taken with plenty of grains of salt…and the current situation in Egypt won’t make testing it any easier.

This isn’t the first time Houdin has put forward a theory about hidden structures in the Great Pyramid. He has previously put forward the hypothesis that the enigmatic monument was built using an internal ramp system, an idea that he expanded upon as co-author of the 2008 book The Secret of the Great Pyramid. Here’s a news report that mentions both of Houdin’s ideas and the plans to check for their existence:

And let’s not forget those other secret chambers that could well exist in the Great Pyramid…

  1. Hugely hypothetical. He still
Hugely hypothetical. He still has yet to prove his theory on the internal ramp. Regardless, I’m all for anyone getting in there and doing some more research on the Great Pyramid.

It’s so bizarre to me that a handful of guys at the turn of the century with rudimentary tools are considered — for the most part — the last word on this structure. Let’s get some geeks and some modern technology in there and look around a bit more.

I believe some robotics geek named Gantenbrink tried that 20 years ago. The follow-up to his discoveries is due….oh, any year now.
      😉

    1. Zahi
No disrespect intended (to him), but Zahi is the human cockroach, in terms of sheer tenacity and indestructibility. If meteors were to rain down on Cairo and the entire area decimated, Zahi would somehow crawl out of the ruins and re-establish himself as the public face of Egyptology once again. He’s a remarkable case, really.

  2. no time soon…..
while they keep thinking the GP as a tomb, and was built 4500 years ago they’ll never get the right answers.
The evidence that the GP stood in water half way up it’s sides should, by any fair assumption, make it thousands of years older then believed.

Lets face it, Egyptians did not build the thing, they did however, desecrate it, possibly 4500 years ago.

The animated video released a few years back showing the internal ramp theory was good to watch but created as many questions as it answered.

    Back to the drawing board…
