Aliens Didn’t Build the Pyramids

The blog of Egyptologist Margaret Maitland (‘The Eloquent Peasant‘) has an entry worth checking out entitled “Why the Aliens Did Not Build the Pyramids“. While I’m all for listening to alternative hypotheses about ancient cultures, I do have to wade through a lot of rubbish from people who simply don’t do any basic research before putting forth their theory. This article is a great primer for getting acquainted with the basics of how the pyramids were built, including such overlooked things as the quarries and tools/methods used. I would argue with some points in the essay though, not least the suggestion that Bauval and Gilbert suggested that aliens built the Great Pyramid in 10,500 BC. But a worthy read all the same.

  1. I really take issue with
I really take issue with this statement:

One of the main arguments of the alien theorists was proposed by Robert Bauval and Adrian Gilbert… (italisation mine)

And again we have another Egyptologist who ignores the mythological and cosmological evidence that Bauval presents with his OCT. Ancient Egyptian cosmological beliefs in the Afterlife are so important, they form the spine of Bauval’s OCT. Yet every critic ignores that and focuses on the three belt stars correlation, because on its own it’s far easier to debunk.

It’s interesting Maitland doesn’t mention Graham Hancock, who now accepts the Giza pyramids were most probably built circa 2500 BC. I’m not sure if Robert Bauval even holds on to the 10’500 BC construction date — if I remember right, he says it’s a marker, pointing to and remembering this epoch, rather than a construction date.

Another statement I take issue with is how she defends the tomb theory:

[The pyramids are empty of artifacts] because they were robbed in antiquity…

Ah yes, if there’s no evidence to support your tomb theory, blame it on tomb robbers. That’s just as bad as crediting aliens for building the pyramids, in my opinion. It’s a wild assumption with no evidence. I guess the tomb robbers also wiped the walls clean of all hieroglyphic murals too, the inconsiderate sods.

Yes, a lot of bullshit is posted on the internet about the pyramids (I’m surprised the drones or the Haitian UFOs haven’t turned up at Giza yet). I completely understand the frustration Egyptologists feel, I really do. But it bugs me to no end when Egyptologists claim to know all, yet they continue making the same basic mistakes when scoffing at genuine researchers like Robert Bauval, Christopher Dunne and Scott Creighton. Maitland comes across as a little hypocritical and, dare I say it, just plain wrong and ignorant.

And not surprisingly, she fails to mention the shafts and stone ‘doors’ in Khufu’s pyramid. I guess Hawass has given everyone strict instructions that it’s his territory now.

It only feels like yesterday when Hawass believed the shafts were for ventilating air.

      LOL!!

It’s not the depth of the rabbit hole that bugs me…
It’s all the rabbit SH*T you stumble over on your way down!!!

    1. Depends too on what is meant
Depends too on what is meant by “aliens.” A culture can be so strangely endowed with energies and priorities and weird technologies that though we may have identical DNA they might as well be in all other respects “alien.” I think that the average consciousness of an upper caste Egyptian was so radically different from ours that we are correct in calling them “alien” and in saying that the pyramids were built by aliens.
