Robert Anton Wilson RIP

Robert Anton Wilson has died, 7 days short of his 75th birthday:

Robert Anton Wilson Defies Medical Experts and leaves his body @4:50 AM on binary date 01/11.
All Hail Eris!

On behalf of his children and those who cared for him, deepest love and gratitude for the tremendous support and lovingness bestowed upon us.

(that’s it from Bob’s bedside at his fnord by the sea)

RAW was a Fortean, anarchist, futurist and esotericist who merged all his various interests in his fictional works, such as The Illuminatus Trilogy. A huge loss.

  1. Hail Eris! All Hail Discordia!
    Hail Eris! All Hail Discordia!

How blissfully strange, the Goddess chose to take RAW from us on the 101st birthday of Albert Hoffman.

Where’s the 23 or the Leary connection?

    1. I got this one…
      Robert

      I got this one…

Robert Anton Wilson shed his mortal coil at age 74, on January 11, 2007 (01/11/2007).

      So let’s see that makes, 7+4+0+1+1+1+2+0+0+7 = 23.

      😉

  2. RAW RIP
Robert Anton Wilson was a prolific writer whose work changed my frame of mind and way of thinking on more than one occasion. He took me to door of Chapel Perilous, and invited me inside. I went in and have never regretted it. Fnord.

May you be in a better place RAW.

    1. I never read Robert Wilson
No, not even once. I don’t even think I’ve ever held a book of his in my hand, but I know what he said, and I believe that speaks more about his contribution to our collective consciousness than anything a fan might say. Friends told me about his books, the sci-fi media and underground press bubbled over with references, parodies, and outright plagerisms of his ideas. Everyone knows a RAW fan, and that’s pretty fantastic for a writer, a non-commercial writer, a writer out there off on his own, not tied to some chiq clique, not born into the right frame of friends, just a guy with a pen and a mind and the courage to put the two of them together.

My regards to the family and those who say they miss him, but I have to tell you all something: to those of us on the outside, Robert is no more gone now than he was last year or ten years ago. His words are still here among us, his ideas still reverberating, his actions still have reaction and result, he’s still part of the popular gestalt that drums up on the image of any of a thousand occult, futurist or political stimuli. That’s a pretty fanatastic legacy.

You might call that a ‘ghost’, but if so, it’s the same ghost spirit as always, undampened, still rippling through us all.

  3. well…know nothing about him what so ever
until now. what I have leant of him now is he and I have the same belief structure.
Thanks to the internet many have shared the same ideals and thoughts.
People……fight any attempt to censor or control this flow of information and shareing of thoughts.

RAW would, I’m sure, appreciate that.
